Ukulele Kids Club
The Village of Buffalo Grove Community Foundation, The Buffalo Grove Friends of the Parks Foundation, and the BG Singers are about to embark on an historic partnership: a public art display throughout our community. The project will not only be a source of pride to the village, but will also benefit the Ukulele Kids Club, an organization that has given over 14,500 ukuleles to medically fragile children at 340 music therapy sites around the world – theukc.org. Currently, the BG Singers have donated 300 ukuleles since 2020.
With this partnership, we are encouraging local businesses to donate $100, which will enable us to purchase a ukulele that will go to pediatric patients at Comer, Lurie, and Advocate Children’s Hospitals. These ukuleles are then given to music therapists to work with the children during their stay, and will then be gifted to the children to take home so they can continue learning through the Ukulele Kids Club online resources.
In addition, we will be giving your business a ukulele that you can decorate (or we will get them decorated by local artists), to display proudly, and receive a plaque acknowledgement with the artist name and thank you to your business, which can be placed below the instrument.
The Larry Berkowitz Arts Scholarship
The Berkowitz Fine Arts Fund was created by the Larry Berkowitz Family, honoring Larry, a 14 year member of the Buffalo Grove Singers, who passed away 7 years ago. To honor his many years with the Singers, his family established a fund to help children participate in the arts.
The Buffalo Grove Singers match the funds contributed by the family annually. With this Fund, we have given college bound students who are majoring in the arts scholarships, brought instruments to inner city schools, and even brought instruments to New York children after Hurricane Sandy. We have helped local schools in the area acquire equipment needed for their arts programs. We also help fund scholarships (through the Friends of the Parks Foundation), so that children can participate in classes in the arts. This year, we have partnered with the Marriott Theater organization and Vernon Township in giving 50 children a very special theater experience.
We are very excited to be involved in giving back to the community in many ways. We accept contributions on behalf of the Berkowitz Fine Arts Fund through the Friends of the Parks Foundation. Donations are graciously accepted and will be put to good use to fund many projects in the future.
If you are interested in donating to the Berkowitz Fine Arts Fund, please contact Cathy Novak at 847.793.0245.
